Chancellor, Washington State University Vancouver
Mel has served as the second chancellor of Washington State University Vancouver since July 2012. He is passionate about growing the number of students who successfully complete their academic degrees and expanding access to higher education—especially for the underrepresented.
Mel also values campus and community engagement, with an emphasis on developing strategic partnerships to support economic development and grow the workforce in Southwest Washington.
His civic engagement is extensive. He serves on several boards that focus on economic development, STEM education, and the advancement of civic engagement and discourse.
Relocating to the Pacific Northwest, Mel says, has turned out to be the perfect blend of nature and culture.
